Trent Criminology: Overview

Written by Shem Semblante and Matthew Tran

If your passion lies in using your brain and brawn to fight for social justice, Trent’s Criminology could be your program! In the Trent Criminology program, you will gain a critical and interdisciplinary understanding of criminalization and punishment, where it places critical focus on systemic oppression including the historical and contemporary realities of Indigenous peoples’, over-criminalization.

Here, you will gain a foundational understanding of social inequality’s influence on the occurrence of crime. You will learn alongside faculty experts in Sociology, Law, Gender & Social Justice and Indigenous Studies, as well as the new Canada Research Chair in Community-Partnered Social Justice. With these, you will be able to better understand the systems at play to champion what’s right.

The best thing about this is that it is offered fully online or as a hybrid program with both online and on-campus, in-class learning. You will discover and gain valuable experiences that will help you connect with and fight for the marginalized and discriminated.
